How TikTok Dance Got Creators On TV

Every day videos go viral on TikTok, whether it’s a dance challenge, a transformation challenge, or something completely unique. But it’s not every day that a TikTok video you create with a friend becomes the reason you go on national TV.

You read that right, TikTokers Mya Nicole Johnson and Chris Cotter ended up being featured in ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’, and it was all thanks to their viral TikTok on Up created by Cardi B. But how did the song go viral? How did they end up appearing on TV? Let’s trace back their journey to find out.

The creation of #upwmyaxchris TikTok Dance Challenge

As soon as Cardi B dropped her song Up, it immediately went viral with everyone grooving to the upbeat tunes. However, the singer was yet to release an official video for the same. Looking at this as an opportunity several TikTok content creators tried choreographing a dance routine for the song, and Mya and Chris were no different.

Mya Nicole Johnson, who is a 15-year-old teen from Texas, teamed up with her friend of 2 years, 13-year-old Chris Cotter, to come up with an original routine for Cardi B’s Up. The duo cooked up a storm and shared it on TikTok with the hashtag #upwmyaxchris. Soon, the hyper dance choreography went viral earning the OG video over 8.5 million views.

Mya Nicole and Chris Cotter on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon

TikTok star Addison Rae appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and taught Jimmy the steps to some viral TikTok dances. However, the creators of these dances weren’t given due credits. This led to a huge demand in the community for credits.

On realizing their mistake, makers of The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon decided to give dance credits to the original creators of these viral TikTok videos. And hence Mya Nicole and Chris Cotter not only appeared on national TV but also performed their dance for everyone.
